Specific accountabilities

The incumbent is responsible for all aspects related to financial and management accounting for designated Ivanhoé Cambridge real estate investments, including recording of ongoing transactions, currency conversion, adjustments for foreign accounting standards and proper processing of financial instruments and market values. The incumbent must obtain the collaboration of external stakeholders as instructed by his or her supervisor. He or she is also responsible for the operational aspects of designated real estate investments, based on specified timeframes. He or she must be able to solve problems independently.

  • Ensure the proper accounting of designated real estate investments to facilitate the subsequent preparation of financial statements for the Ivanhoé Cambridge Group and its subsidiaries;
  • Validate all financial data provided by real estate managers and partners;
  • Determine the impact of variances in the real estate investments' accounting policies and make the proper accounting adjustments to comply with the Company's standards (management and IFRS);
  • Analyze financial statements of designated real estate investments and provide explanations for key variances between actual, budgeted and previous year's figures for income statement as well as balance sheet items;
  • Record adjustments related to specific accounting treatments and corporate ownership structures;
  • Perform various month-end, quarter-end and year-end reconciliations and analyses;
  • Analyze changes in realized and unrealized currency gains and losses on monetary items;
  • Validate inter-company transactions and investments of designated real estate investments to ensure proper elimination;
  • Prepare financial information on changes in capital expenses of designated real estate investments and track capital budgets;
  • Assist the advisor/manager in accounting for dispositions;
  • Prepare other information and analysis (statutory and tax-related financial statements, accounting for income tax provision and performance fees, requests from tax department, statistics, etc.);
  • Prepare analyses for the Corporate Controller as part of the preparation of the quarterly financial statements;
  • Validate operating budgets of designated real estate investments and input adjustments in JD Edwards;
  • Prepare certain notes to the audited financial statements;
  • Ensure the implementation of established internal controls;
  • Take part in special projects as assigned.

Key requirements

  • Five to seven years of relevant experience;
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and CPA designation;
  • Solid knowledge of the accounting aspects of consolidation and currency conversion;
  • Knowledge of Canadian and International accounting standards;
  • Very good analytical skills and a talent for processing and interpreting information;
  • Good prioritization and multitasking skills; ability to work independently and perform under pressure ;
  • Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills;
  • Confidently innovative, creative and comfortable in challenging the status quo;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including an in-depth knowledge of Excel; familiarity with JD Edwards, an asset;
  • Fluency in spoken and written French and English.
