The group of companies includes certain entities associated with Persistence Capital Partners, a leading Canadian healthcare-focused Private Equity Fund, as well as other investments and operating entities in the medical space and related holding companies.
Key Responsibilities & Scope of Position
The Director of Accounting reports to the Managing Partner of the group of companies and is responsible for general accounting, reporting and compliance for the group of companies, as well as oversight and supervision of the staff accountant/bookkeeper.
Reporting / Forecasting:
Responsible for overseeing the general accounting of multiple related entities, including monthly reconciliations, budgeting, regulatory filings, billing, A/R and A/P;
Complete monthly, quarterly and annual reporting packages;
Prepares budget and cashflow forecasts for the group of companies;
Maintains and monitors a calendar of due dates for financial reporting and compliance purposes.
Supervises / performs the completion of Federal and Provincial tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales, payroll and other taxes), and other reports required by government regulation;
Coordinates work relating to external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records;
Responsible for implementing an accounting system to ensure accounting requirements are met;
Responsible for Payroll management;
Assists principals & external service providers with dealing with tax related issues and filings.
Will have direct management responsibility of the staff accountant / bookkeeper.
Provide support to principals for a variety of ad hoc initiatives / investments (real estate, public equities, venture capital);
Qualifications / Prior Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree, and accounting designation - CPA strongly preferred
5 to10 years of combined Public Accounting and Private Industry accounting experience. Tax experience beneficial
Experience in managing the accounting of more than one entity
Experience supervising accounting personnel
Knowledge of sales tax and payroll levies, and related filings required.
Clear communicator – detail oriented and self-starter
Strong organizational skills – ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to plan to meet deadlines with efficiency and accuracy
Proficiency in Windows applications (Word,Excel)
Experience using Quickbooks and/or SimplyAccounting (Sage)
