Acting as the prime partner to business process owners, these roles will be accountable for the quality and integrity of all financial and performance planning, forecasting, analysis, and evaluation within the function. You will be in a finance leadership role, working closely with the business leads to advise them in their business decisions. You will lead a team of professionals in helping Canada Post improve its financial position, its controls, and the integration of activities across business units.

You will also be embarking on a strategic transformation journey with our Finance Team to drive our refreshed vision for Finance to be recognized as a strategic business partner with commercial skills delivering insightful analysis and constructive challenge, to enable optimal decisions, help drive the Corporation’s business and financial performance, and reach our social goals. 

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Director, Finance:

  • Provides functional direction for a finance function which could include but not limited to: Operations Finance, Performance Management, Integrated Planning, Finance Decision Support, Standard Costing and Sampling, Customer Financial Evaluations & Profitability, Finance Project Management, and Corporate Investment Project Financial Evaluation and Planning.
  • Develops, modifies, implements, monitors and evaluates financial policies, procedures and/or practices. Proposes and leads improvement opportunities based on current financial activities.
  • Directs the preparation of financial analysis including but not limited to cost-benefit analysis and/or other financial management reports on a periodic or ad hoc basis.
  • Leads a team of finance professionals towards the achievement of functional objectives by providing guidance, support and direction; creates a climate such that staff are motivated and committed to the function’s mandate, objectives and focus to client services.
  • Manages or participates in projects of a complex nature within or outside the function. Develops project scope, plans and secures required resources, schedules and tracks activities to ensure time commitments are met.
  • Prepares and presents complex assessments, analyses, evaluations and reports and undertakes special initiatives as requested by the General Manager.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with all stakeholders, both internally and externally, in order to manage issues and ensure functional operating protocols for day-today activities. Embodies and promotes the Canada Post Corporate Leadership Behaviours and Values in all interactions.  



  • University degree in a business-related field (e.g., commerce, finance, economics, accounting, business administration)
  • MBA is an asset
  • CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) professional designation is an asset


  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a finance or accounting environment
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in analyzing and reporting of financial information
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • Experience completing business cases

  • Excellent negotiator and strong relationship building – proven ability to lead and influence a team.
  • Strong Business and Financial acumen – proven ability to understand and decipher the business and financial issues
  • Excellent communications skills (both oral and written) – proven ability to deliver presentations in a clear and concise way
  • Experience in dealing with and communicating with senior management
  • Strong ability to manage priorities
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting policies and Internal Control over Financial Reporting an asset
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset

Relocation may be extended to candidates. 

Primary City: Ottawa / Other Locations: The position location is flexible to any major centre in Canada
