As a fully accredited, progressive healthcare organization, Geraldton District Hospital is committed to providing high-quality services to the residents of Greenstone (Beardmore, Caramat, Geraldton, Longlac, Nakina) and surrounding First Nations communities. With 23 acute care beds, 26 long-term care beds, a 24-hour emergency department and a heliport, the Hospital provides an array of services, including clinical nutrition, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, outreach chemotherapy, rehabilitation, social work and telemedicine.
Geraldton District Hospital is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to assume responsibility for a high-profile healthcare project ($25 million) related to the construction of the new Emergency Department, as well as review, enhance and strengthen the Hospital's financial processes and accountability structure. Accountable to the Board of Directors, and acting as second-in-command to the CEO, the new CFO will assist with the strategic direction of the Hospital and the leadership of its staff, while overseeing all financial accounting and reporting, procedures and internal controls of the Finance Department. As this strategic financial leader, you'll establish strong working relationships with employees, partner organizations, the North West Local Health Integration Network, the ministries of Health and Long-Term Care, the Municipality of Greenstone and the surrounding region.
This is a sizable mandate, calling for a strong capital background, a thorough understanding of contract management and administration, cost controls, and project schedules and management, as well as a broad suite of strategic financial expertise. You have had proven success in managing project timelines, are comfortable with media and public relations, and are adept at building spreadsheets, reporting to boards, sitting on committees and providing regular reports to the Ministry or a comparable government entity. You identify yourself as a people person, want to be an active participant in the life of the community, and can foster dynamic relationships and develop partnerships between the Hospital and all of its key stakeholders. You understand the Patients First approach of the Ontario healthcare system and are a catalyst for change, able to proactively identify key issues, assess strategic options and implement innovative solutions.
A highly effective, engaging and approachable leader, you'll delegate responsibly, resolve conflict diplomatically, nurture talent productively and motivate your team to achieve peak performance. A strategic thinker and an active listener, you'll encourage and model flexibility and commitment to transparency and accountability. You'll consult internally and externally while facilitating and coordinating long-range financial planning processes through the senior management team and the Board of Directors. In addition to ensuring the new Emergency Department project is on-time and on-budget, you'll be a change leader with the autonomy to develop and implement new financial processes and policies.
The successful candidate will hold a CPA designation (an MBA may also be considered) and have no fewer than 5 to 7 years of management experience, preferably in a hospital or the healthcare field in general. As such a leader, you will also have experience working in a rural community setting, and knowledge of government acts, regulations and policies as they apply to both operational and capital management. The ability to communicate in both official languages and/or Ojibway would be an asset.
