Methanex is currently seeking an Accountant to join the team in Medicine Hat for a temporary term with an anticipated start date of February 1st, 2019 through to December 31st, 2020.

In this role, you will provide accounting support and financial stewardship for the Medicine Hat plant site in the form of monthly financial close, site financial reporting and analysis, department cost budget and forecasts, cash forecasts, accounts receivable and insurance. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating month-end and quarter-end financial close, ensuring results are complete and timely
  • Performing plant volume balance and inventory continuity/reconciliation with production
  • Maintaining accurate financial results through journal entry preparation, analysis and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
  • Providing analysis, interpretation and reporting of actual financial and operational performance, accurate cost forecast and variances to plan, to supervisors and managers
  • Preparing monthly departmental costs
  • Account reconciliations
  • Coordinating internal/external audit requests
  • Coordinating annual operating fixed cost budget and monthly/quarterly forecast updates
  • Providing support and mentorship to Accounts Payable personnel in troubleshooting system and process issues
  • Subject matter expert on global Maximo finance team; identifying, evaluating, and testing system fixes and improvements
  • Coordinating internal and external audit requests
  • Administering motor vehicle insurance and registration
  • Recording insurance for site; managing prepaid and expense portions
  • Responding to queries
  • Maintaining relevant Sarbanes Oxley process narratives

To qualify for this role, it is preferred you have a post-secondary diploma in Accounting, or a similar discipline and a minimum of 5 years of previous relevant experience.

You will also possess:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of financial software and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships, as well as strong team collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several competing priorities, and respond effectively to shifting priorities
  • Sound judgment and an ability to make valuable recommendations based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom and experience
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and listening skills

Further, you will be a very detail-orientated professional with outstanding organization, prioritization, planning and time management skills. Strong customer focus evidenced by a dedication to exceeding the expectations of internal and external customers and the ability to be proactive in identifying and implementing improvements and efficiencies are essential skills for this role.
